How To Become A K9 Handler

YOU CAN HELP SAVE A LIFE!

In order for MSDA to provide valuable life saving services we must have the proper tools and education. Currently, volunteers staff MSDA, and as such, our volunteers are responsible for their own uniforms, equipment and personal supplies along with any training and travel expenses when MSDA funds are too low.

MSDA would like to offset these expenses by receiving goods or services in bulk at little to no cost. This would allow us to help save our members from spending too much of their own money- the time and dedication they put in should be more than enough.

CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP

Corporate sponsors are a major part of MSDA's operational budget. Without the support of their contributions our organization would not have the resources to function. Every company that makes a financial donation or other form of contribution receives recognition for their support. Please see our How To Become A Corporate Sponsor brochure for detailed information on the benefits your company can receive for their support.

DONATION OF MONEY

You can make a tax deductable donation by mailing a personal check, cashiers' check or money order along with your name and address to the MSDA at 3218 Ritchie Rd. Metamora MI, 48455.

You can also make your tax deductable donation online using a Visa®, Master Card®, DISCOVER®, American Express®, Debit Card, Electronic Check, or Direct Transfer via PayPal's online processing service. Also please be sure that the amount you enter reflects your intent. For instance, we've experienced donations intended to be $75 dollars being entered as $0.75 cents.

Please be aware we have our 501(C)(3) Tax Exemption status. All donations are tax deductible.

DONATION OF GOODS OR SERVICES

The donation of goods and services can relieve a great deal of pressure from our budget. Legal, accounting, liability coverage and veterinary care are needed just to name a few. When neither donated goods nor donated funds are available, our members are the ones who end up covering these expenses.

If you are interested in donating goods or services, please contact MSDA with your offer or for a current list of needs.

DONATION OF DOGS

Dogs are an essential part of our service. Without them what would we be? Each and every dog is chosen for a specific job. Each one of those jobs requires special traits and behaviors from specific breeds. MSDA has established a Breeder’s Program to obtain that new puppy who is just right to use in search work.

Breeders who have met strict MSDA guidelines for acceptable breeding practices have the privilege of being recognized as a MSDA Certified Breeder. Ask to speak with MSDA’s Breeder Liaison today to get one of your pups started in search and rescue.

PROVIDING A TRAINING SITE

One of the more difficult aspects of training an Urban Search And Rescue dog, especially for those dogs that are at a more advanced level, is finding a variety of suitable locations for training sessions. Recycling plants (wood, building materials, slash piles, concrete, etc), quarries, gravel pits, vacant buildings, industrial equipment locations, and demolition sites are a few possible locations. If you have access to, or ownership of, a site that you can offer please contact us.
